Brighton Mosque & Muslim Community Centre
Last updated: 28 September 2026
This notice explains how we use personal information for the Youth Halaqah and other mosque youth activities. It is for parents, carers and young people.
If you have any questions, please email info@brightonmosque.com.
What information do we collect?
When a parent or carer registers a young person, we ask for their name and date of birth, the parent or carer’s contact details, and a second emergency contact. We also record permission for attending and for travelling to and from the mosque independently.
We ask about allergies, health conditions or support needs only where we need to know about them to help the young person take part safely. We keep a record of attendance at each session.
How do we use this information?
We use it to organise the activity, know who is present, contact a parent or carer, support individual needs and respond to an emergency or safeguarding concern.
Our reason for using ordinary registration and contact details is our legitimate interest in running youth activities safely. We use relevant health details with extra care. Where necessary to protect a young person, we may also use or share information in an emergency.
Permission for a young person to attend is separate from our reasons under data protection law for using their information.
Who can see it?
Only the organisers who need the information for their role can access it. For example, a session leader may need an emergency phone number or details of an allergy. Other young people and their families cannot see the registration forms.
We use Jotform to collect the forms. We may share relevant information with emergency services or safeguarding authorities when needed to protect a young person. We do not sell the information or use it for advertising.
We also use a restricted Google Sheet to organise registrations and attendance. Access is limited to authorised organisers who need the information for their role.
Photos and videos
We ask for photo and video permission separately. It is optional: a young person can attend even if their parent or carer says no.
You can change your choice by emailing us. We will stop using the young person’s image in new mosque posts. We may not be able to remove copies that other people have already shared.
How long do we keep it?
We review registration details while the young person attends and ask parents and carers to tell us when details change. When they stop attending, we review their routine registration and attendance records and delete them when they are no longer needed.
We may need to keep records about an accident, complaint or safeguarding concern for longer.
Your rights
You can ask to see the information we hold, correct something that is wrong, or ask us to delete information where the law allows. You can also contact us to change photo permission or tell us that your child will no longer attend.
Please email info@brightonmosque.com. You can also raise a data protection concern with the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
For young people
We collect these details so we can run the group and help you if something goes wrong. We only tell the organisers what they need to know. If you have a question about your information, you can speak to an organiser with your parent or carer, or email us.
